Food Security and Sustainability
Food security and food sustainability are activities that the ELCM takes seriously. With recent bountiful harvests because of plentiful rainfall and a government subsidized fertilizer program, people can shift their thinking from survival to making their food supply secure and stable. “The status of hunger has improved in some parts of the country but in other parts there is no improvement due to climate change, i.e., drought and natural disasters. The work of Diakonia is to ensure food security in areas where there is improvement in terms of hunger and to continue to alleviate the problems in other places and design sustainability strategies to instill the spirit of self-reliance in people despite the challenge faced.” (Comment by Ester Gondwe, Assistant Diakonia Coordinator.)
Guinea Fowl are disease resistant, excellent foragers, and a good source of protein.

God of the harvest, we lift up to your today the ministry of Food Security and Sustainability of the Evangelical Lutheran in Malawi, educating your people on ways to be proactive against hunger issues in the future. We lift up the providers of this education who teach about nutrition, diversity of foods and sustainability in agricultural methods. Bless this ministry as it blesses your people with work, knowledge and the ability to better feed your people. Amen.
